The Best of 2017: Makeup, Skincare & Hair Products

And thats a wrap! 2017 has come to an end, and I don’t know about you but I’m so ready to start off this new year. There were so many great beauty products this year and I wanted to share some of my faves that I’ll definitely be taking into 2018 with me.

Eyeshadow Palettes/Singles

Jaclyn Hill X Morphe Eyeshadow Palette

Let me just tell you. This eyeshadow palette has a crazy amount of shadows, from matte, to shimmer, to foiled shadows. There are so many beautiful colours that you can create bomb ass looks with. Not to mention, the formula is crazy smooth and pigmented which makes it easy to use for beginners!

Tarte Chrome Paint Shadow Pot (Shade: Park Ave Princess)

This shadow was a new hit for me, I recently purchased it after watching some snapchat swatches from @lusterlux and I couldn’t take my eyes off how beautiful one little swatch was, so I grabbed it as soon as I could from Sephora. One light swatch and this shadow could probably cover my entire arm, its a beautiful bronze with gold flakes and shimmer and it looks gorgeous with any eye combo.

Anastasia Beverly Hills: Modern Renaissance Palette

I think this is definitely a must have for any girls makeup collection, its the perfect combo of mauves and warm tones which helps to create a ton of different looks. Whenever I do a clients makeup, this is always a must have to bring. I also love that it comes with a two sided brush which can be used for a lot of different looks.

Dose of Colours: The Girls palette (limited edition, not sure when/if it’s returning)

20759350_281200505617272_7218271747332636672_n.jpeg

I’m so sad this is limited edition, I love Desi and Katy and I was so excited when they came out with their own collection with dose of colours. All four of these shades are shimmers and they’re perfect for the lid. Two of the shadows are supposed to be used wet, and the other two dry. They almost look wet on the eyelids and I’m living for it!

Highlighters

ABH X Nicole Guerriero Glow Kit (Limited Edition, not sure if/when its returning)

images-1.jpeg

I can never say enough good things about this palette, I would have to say this hit the #1 spot in 2017 for me! I love all the different shades you have to play with, and I think they really incorporated something for every skin tone which I love. One of the most intense highlights I’ve used without adding anything to it, but can also be played down to be more natural.

Fenty Beauty: Killawatt Freestyle Highlighter (Shade:Mean Money/Hu$tla Baby)

images-3.jpeg

I’m gonna be honest I bought this because of the packaging, plus I was really curious about the fenty line but I really loved this duo. The shade on the left is mean money which is more of a natural golden glow and the shade on the right is hu$tla baby and its definitely a wam bam shade with a sparkly and metallic look to it.

Kylie Cosmetics: Ultra Glow (Shade: Fiji)

images-4.jpeg

If you’re looking for that blinding highlight, this is definitely the way to go. Every time I go out wearing this I get tons of questions and compliments on it, I’m not usually a fan of loose highlights but its extremely pigmented and a little goes a long way.

Jouer powder highlight (Skinny Dip)

Unknown-1.jpeg

This is another favourite of mine, its super smooth and almost melts on the skin. This is one of my favourite summer highlighters for all over my body and face, it’s more on the bronze/gold side but I love using this in the corners of my eyes and tip of my nose too!

MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish: Oh Darling

img_9130.png

This will never stop being one of the best, its more of a chrome gold colour and definitely requires more of a tan. I love mac products, and with a little fix + this highlight goes a long way.

Primers

Becca: Backlight Priming Filter Face Primer

images-5.jpeg

This is my everyday primer, and i’m obsessed. I love primers that make my face feel moisturized before I put on any makeup and I really feel like this does that. Not to mention, I’m a non stop glow-bot and this gives my face a natural highlight and I can see that shine through the makeup I put on top with a healthy glow.

Smashbox: Photo Finish Primer (Pore Minimizing)

Unknown-11.jpeg

This is another great primer, especially if you’re looking for something oil free. Right after I apply this my face feels instantly matte and smooth, I like using this during the summer because I feel like it really makes my makeup stay put and I feel safe nothing will shift during the day. This also gives an amazing smooth surface to apply your makeup over, I probably touch my face 30 times a day with this on because I can’t believe how smooth my skin is!

Foundation & Concealer

Makeup For Ever Ultra HD Liquid Foundation

Unknown-2.jpeg

Hands down favourite foundation, its liquid and has medium coverage. You won’t be disappointed!

Tarte Shape Tape

Unknown-12.jpeg

Tarte is known for having the best concealer in the makeup game and Im here to tell you its true. This concealer changed my life for highlighting my face, its so easy to apple and blend out and they have about 500 different shades for every skin tone which is amazing!

Lips

Buxom: Full on lip cream (Shade: White Russian)

Unknown-4.jpeg

I’m a nude type of girl as you can probably tell, this is my favourite nude gloss. Like nudes just look good on everyone and you can do any makeup look and it just works. Buxom lip creams have plumping properties inside so when you apply them they tingle your lips and make them feel almost cold. This is such a pretty lip gloss, it has little sparkles in it and isn’t that sticky gross formula which is why I love it so much.

Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask

Laneigelipsleepingmask_1024x1024_9adff7e3-a1ef-4524-9cb2-1cb5f337efc0_large.jpg

OK so this is technically a lip sleeping mask but I use this as a lip gloss/lip chap. I die for this honestly, it’s so glossy and plumps your lips right away. People always ask me  about this and I swear by it, its that wet type of look and it makes them look so healthy while keeping them moisturized and conditioned.

KKW Beauty: Creme Liquid Lipstick (Shade:Kimberly)

s-l1600.jpg

So if anyone knows me, they know I HATE matte lipsticks. I think they can look good on other people but honestly they just don’t work on me and I don’t like the dry feel of them. Ive always wanted to try Kylie Cosmetics Lipsticks but they were always matte, when she came out with the creme lipsticks I was super excited to try them. Kimberly was for sure my fave shade, just the perfect nude pink without being too bright and too brown. The formula is so nice, its not dry and it stays on just like a matte would.

Jouer Lip Topper (Shade: St.Tropez)

Unknown-5.jpeg

SO I love this for when I wanna be a lil extra, I add it to any lip colour and it just adds a lil something something. Basically its a lip gloss full of sparkles, I don’t put it all over my lip but I like to add them to the bottom lip lightly and then on my cupids bow to add a little shimmer! I also use this on my eyes when I’m feeling frisky.

Perfume/Body Spray

Viktor & Rolf: Flowerbomb

375x500.1460.jpg

This is my favourite everyday perfume, I can’t say enough good things about this scent. Its a nice fresh scent, perfect for day time or a night out. If you’re ballin on a budget this is probably something you’d wanna skip because its a highly priced item, but aren’t all perfumes these days?!

YSL: Black Opium

Unknown-6.jpeg

This is a new perfume for me, I just got this as a Christmas present from my beautiful mom and I’m in love. I would definitely wear this for a night out rather than everyday but its such a addicting scent that I’ve been spraying it on everything..

SOL de Janeiro: Brazilian Crush Body Mist

s1985118-main-hero.jpg

This is my all time favourite scent for sure, I don’t know what it is about this body spray but it smells so amazing. Every time I spray it, everyone around asks me what I’m wearing or what it is. They also sell this in cream form, which I drench my body in after every shower. The only downfall is its pretty expensive!

Skincare

Drunk Elephant: Beste No.9 Jelly Cleanser

Unknown-7.jpeg

This is a great everyday cleanser, I love the drunk elephant skincare line and it actually makes my skin feel softer and moisturized after using it.

Drunk Elephant: Lala Retro Whipping Cream

Unknown-8.jpeg

I just recently tried this, and finished a container and I love it! I have sensitive skin and this is awesome because of how rich and creamy it is but without the strong scent. I feel the difference using this product, especially when I have makeup on.

First Aid Beauty: Ultra Repair Cream

2295764-1.jpeg

This is awesome option for a moisturizer, especially if you have sensitive or dry skin. I put it on before bed and when I wake up I can still feel the moisture.

Clean and Clear Makeup Dissolving Cleanser

999999-62600060341.jpg

This is my go-to cleanser. It’s non expensive and you can grab it at any drug store which is super convenient, I’m super lazy right before bed and I never want to take all of my makeup off, this is a super easy alternative and all you have to do is gently massage on your face and all your makeup including mascara melts off in seconds.

Juice Beauty: Stem Cellular Exfoliating Peel Spray

Unknown-9.jpeg

My favourite exfoliant ever! I use this right after I cleanse my face, its a little gross but you can actually feel the dead skin coming off of your face when you rub this in and its weirdly satisfying.

Hair Products

Ouai: Texturizing Hair Spray

Unknown-10.jpeg

Like dry shampoo and hair spray had a baby, this hair spray is awesome when you don’t want that hard crunchy feel. It adds shine and keeps my curls soft and bouncy all day.

Ouai: Wave Spray

IMG_0191.jpg

I LOVE this stuff, for a lazy girl like me who loves to go to bed with her hair wet this is perfect. This spray always keeps my hair shiny and smooth even if I don’t blow dry my hair, and I can always wake up with a little wave and throw it in a ponytail without worrying about the knots and air dry feel.

Living Proof: Perfect Hair Day 5in1 styling treatment

Living_Proof_Perfect_Hair_Day_5-in-1_Styling_Treatment_Review-1.jpg

This is a product I always use whenever I blow dry my hair, it keeps my hair from getting that ugly static in the winter and keeps it nice and shiny. I also have a hard time keeping my hair straight, but this is perfect whenever I’m styling it to ensure it stays the way I want it.

Thanks so much for checking out this post! I hope you saw a few items that caught your eye, and you give these awesome beauty items a try in 2018. Happy new year lovelies! Until next time,

Lex
